Backup low (poker)

Also: Low backup

Poker term

A third low card that backs up your low if it gets counterfeited.

The 3 in A-2-3-K, for example. If an A or a 2 falls, the other two cards rebuild the low. A-2-3-x ends with the nut low on the river 43% of the time, up from 25% for a hand with only A-2.
