IP (poker)

Also: In position

Poker term

Being able to act after your opponent.

You see whether the opponent checks or bets before you decide, so position is the biggest factor in EQR (the share of your equity you actually realize). IP hands can realize more than 100%, and OOP hands tend to realize less. Example. The BTN is IP against everyone postflop. The "In position" spot is you opening the BTN and the BB calling.
