On K♠ 8♦ 3♣, a set of kings is the nuts. In PLO, non-nut hands lose often, so you choose hands by whether they can make the nuts. You use exactly 2 hole cards, so with 4 ♠ on the board, a single A♠ is not a flush. On T-9-7, J-8 is the nuts.
