Weak pairs, such as bottom pair or an underpair, that don't bet.
If you bet, weaker hands fold and only stronger hands stay, so check. Example: A3 or 55 on a K♠ 8♦ 3♣ board. When defending, call one small bet on the flop and fold to the second.
